If you are looking for the best fish and seafood, we advise you to visit the Genuine Restaurant. Founded and managed by Genuíno Madruga, an Azorean navigator with two rounds of the world sailing and alone, here you can taste the best fresh fish and seafood in the city, while also enjoying the beautiful view of the bay of Porto Pim.

Canto da Doca restaurant

In the Canto da Doca restaurant, which stays on the same street as the Genuíno’s restaurant, all dishes are made at the table, using hot basalt stone. The restaurant had as inspiration the naval construction practiced during the sec. XIX and mid-sec. XX, namely part of the fleet that had been prepared for the trip of D. Pedro IV to Mindelo.

XF restaurant

If you are looking for a good steak at the region, you can try the bar / restaurant XF. This restaurant has also a nice view to Pic,  good music and good gin.

Medalhas restaurant

Last but not least, we recommend a visit to the restaurant Medalhas. Located in the city center, this restaurant offers typical Azorean dishes, such as black pudding, “linguiça” and fried yams.

In any of the restaurants we mention, you will have at your disposal a selection of delicious Portuguese wines.

Enjoy!

How to get here

March 7, 2017 by admin Leave a Comment

Faial island, like the other islands, has an airport, Horta Airport (HOR), with connections to the other islands and direct flights with Lisbon.

The fastest and easiest way to travel to us will be through Azores Airlines, which direct connections from Lisbon.

However, if you travel in companies such as TAP Portugal, Air Berlin, Ryanair and Easyjet, you should stop in the islands of São Miguel or Terceira and then travel with SATA-Air Açores to Faial, the airline that connects all the islands of the Azores.

If you bought a ticket from the Portuguese Mainland, you can benefit from a free routing, that is, you may not pay for the connecting flight. To do this, you should make an inquire to SATA – Air Açores about the free routing service for passengers traveling between islands in the Autonomous Region of the Azores.

If you come from the islands of Pico or São Jorge, you can travel on one of ATLÂNTICOLINE’s ships. The trip to Sao Jorge (Velas) – Faial (Horta) takes about 2 hours, while the trip Pico (Madalena) to Faial (Horta) takes about 30 min. These ships also offer the possibility of transporting the cars.

Between the months of May and September, ATLÂNTICOLINE also makes connections between all the islands of the Azores.

Almoxarife beach

Located in the village of Almoxarife Beach, about a 10-minute drive from Vila Odette, this is one of the best bathing spots on the island. A clean beach with very black sand that contrasts with the white foam of the sea. The atmosphere is very calm, the temperature of the water can reach 25ºC during the month of August and we can see from any point the Pico island. Next to the beach there is also a café and a restaurant. It has changing rooms and is watched.

Porto Pim beach

This is the most frequented beach of Faial Island, located within the city (about 17 minutes walk from Vila Odette), in the bay of Porto Pim. The sand is a little lighter than that of Almoxarife Beach, the water usually warmer and shallow, ideal for carrying children.

Within its area of coverage, there is the Baleia Factory, one of the most relevant testimonies of the industrial past of the island of Faial and which is now an interpretive center of the old Azorean whaling activity.

Next to this beach there are several restaurants, cafes and bars. It is also a guarded beach.
